EAST LYNN, W.Va. -- The mood in the hallways at Wayne High School was quiet
and somber Friday, after two brothers died in a single-vehicle crash Thursday
evening. The victims were identified as Joshua Aaron Harless, 18, and his
brother Shawn Michael Harless, 16, according to school officials and
investigators from the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. The oldest victim
graduated from Wayne High School last year, while his brother was still
attending the same school. The fatal crash happened at 5:48 p.m. on Camp Creek
Road near East Lynn. The road intersects with W.Va. 37. Chief Deputy David
Watts said Joshua Harless was driving westbound when his vehicle dropped off
the right side of the road and then crossed the center line, went over an
embankment and hit a tree. Both victims were wearing seat belts. They were
pronounced dead at the scene. "It's pretty tragic when you get two boys in one
family," Watts said. "I can't imagine." Joshua Harless was employed at Portec
Rail in Huntington. His brother was a junior at Wayne High School.
